Putting Its People First: In Celebration of 35 Years of Success, TA Services Gives Back

Ask any TA Services team member what makes this full service 3PL provider stand apart from others and the answer will be uniform: the people. The TA Services culture is special. It’s challenging, exciting, and fulfilling, but also warm and inviting – some call it familial. To be a part of the TA culture is to be welcomed, valued, and appreciated. Creating an environment with an open door policy and “no thought too big” ideals is something TA Services’ CEO, Scott Schell, has been adamant about since his first day as CEO. 35 years after its inception, Schell credits the people-first mentality as one of the primary reasons for TA Services’ success over the last three decades; growing from strictly a freight brokerage to a full service 3PL.

Schell aptly summed it up in his company-wide speech in May 2021, during the 35th Anniversary celebration: “Today, the company stands over 600* plus people strong. We have four pillars of success that stem from multi modal brokerage. We have a large-scale warehousing operation that services multiple industries, providing storage, fulfillment, and distribution services. We have a Cross-Border Logistics service that allows us to service customers into and out of Mexico*. And then we also have a Managed Transportation business that offers small to mid-sized customers an extension of our services and technology. We have completed multiple acquisitions that have helped us grow and expand our services. Those acquisitions were performed because of the success and value that has been created by each and every one of you to our shareholders, our stakeholders, our customers, and our carrier partners. And it is something that no one else can replicate. The future is bright at TA and [if] you guys continue to make ship happen it will be a continued successful story. But most importantly I am so blessed and thankful to be a part of your team.”

It’s one thing to claim that your people are at the helm of your success but showing your appreciation for them is what separates great companies from good companies. Showing your people that they are appreciated, in whatever form, builds confidence, loyalty, dedication, and a strong sense of teamwork. This year, as TA Services celebrated 35 years in business and showing appreciation was front and center.

*Since this time, TA Services stands proud with more than 700 dedicated team members and has expanded its geographical reach to include Canada, making TA Services a true premier North American third-party logistics provider.

What a day – Jerseys, Cash, and Motorcycles – Oh My!

It was a special day and all 20+ TA Services locations enjoyed catered lunches together and took time to reflect on where we came from and what we have accomplished together. Everyone sported their custom jerseys bearing the number 35 on the back for “Jersey Friday.” But TA’s CEO decided to kick things up a notch… in addition to all of the swag and the site lunches, Schell also chose 15 people at random to receive a $1,000 cash prize giveaway.

He also mixed his passion with work and gave two custom Harley Davidson motorcycles away. As a longtime chopper lover himself, Schell wanted to share his passion for motorcycles with his work family. One motorcycle giveaway just wasn’t enough, so to amp up the celebration, TWO custom Harley Davidson motorcycles were given away to two very lucky TA Services team members – one from our Indianapolis brokerage office and the other from our Midlothian, TX mill (the TA Services birthplace).

Appreciation Year Round

While it’s clear TA Services took the time to celebrate the 35th Anniversary milestone with festivities, gifts and entertainment, TA also acknowledges that true employee appreciation shouldn’t just happen in recognition of major milestone achievements. Initiatives such as routine internal surveys to gather employee feedback, a fully self-funded company webstore with on-trend branded items like tech gear and apparel to celebrate new hires, birthdays, anniversaries, and outstanding work, as well as regular office gatherings to boost morale and team spirit are ingrained in the day-to-day culture of the company.

Investing in people is how TA Services has grown from five people in a small trailer nestled in Midlothian, Texas to more than 700 team members spanning across all of North America from Canada to Mexico and everywhere in between, (over 300 of which have been hired since the beginning of 2020). TA Services may have been founded on little more than a handshake and a promise back in 1986, but a priority to invest in people, process, and technology has helped TA Services grow exponentially. Today, TA Services has helped more than 2,000 customers move over 8 million tons of their goods and products more than a billion miles across North America. Creating an environment where people feel confident and capable to take on any hurdles or disruptions to an ever-changing market has resulted in world-class 3PL services and unprecedented customer support.
