2022 Growth Mode: A Strategy to Benefit TA Services Customers
Part 1: Growth – from the 2022 In-Review Series
As 2022 comes to an end, we’re looking back at our successes with a 2022 Year in Review series. In this series, we’ll round up successful partnerships, awards, new service offerings, business growth and more. Tune in each month during Q4 for a new installment. And read on for a look back at our year of growth.
For TA Services, the theme of 2022 was — and continues to be — growth. From acquiring new companies to opening new sites, we’ve continued to grow in ways that allow us to better serve our customers and expand our service offerings.
Growing TA Services Through Acquisitions
TA Services has announced multiple recent acquisitions as part of our ongoing commitment to business growth and expanded service offerings for our customers.
Scout Logistics
In August 2021, we announced our acquisition of Scout Logistics, worldwide cold chain logistics specialists based in Canada. This acquisition expanded our services offerings at TA Services by growing our capabilities for temperature-controlled freight. And when it comes to growth, things really accelerated — at the time, bringing us to $500 million in revenue, 650 employees, and more than 20 global locations, spanning from Monterrey, Mexico to Toronto, Canada.
More than a year into the new partnership, things are going well. “The acquisition of Scout Logistics has provided legacy TA Services employees with additional knowledge and best practices for servicing temperature-sensitive shipments and has solidified another best-in-class service offering for North American shippers,” said VP of Brokerage Operations, Chris Bahr.
C2 Freight
Less than a year later, we added another company to our list of acquisitions: C2 Freight, an Alabama-based brokerage specializing in dry van, flatbed, temperature-controlled, expedited, and LTL services. Our growth skyrocketed yet again, bringing us up to over $600 million in revenue, 750 employees, and more than 23 global locations.
Though this acquisition is still new, we’re already so excited about the opportunities it has provided our new and existing customers. “Legacy C2 Freight Resources customers have benefitted from technology enhancements post-acquisition,” said Bahr. “Some of those enhancements include EDI connectivity, real-time integrated tracking, and reporting services.”
KPI Logistics
Announced earlier this month, our most recent acquisition was of San Diego, CA-based KPI Logistics. This acquisition accelerated our growth to more than 800 employees and over $750 million in revenue. KPI Logistics’ San Diego office further expands TA’s footprint to coast-to-coast coverage and helps provides a greater presence on the West Coast for future growth.
“KPI’s highly experienced leadership and dedicated employees are a great fit for TA Services. We share similar values and work ethic that will propel the company forward as a unified team,” said Scott Schell, CEO & President of TA Services.
Going Above and Beyond for Customers
We see ourselves as true partners to our customers, not just providers. By acting as an extension of their teams, we can have a more significant impact on their goals and successes. We’re always looking at opportunities to grow our existing offerings so that we can continue to scale with our customers.
Moving On-Site for Nucor
In July of this year, we announced the opening of a new mill site for Nucor Corporation — North America’s most diversified steel and steel products manufacturer — in Cofield, North Carolina. We set up operations directly on Nucor’s plant site, allowing us to add immediate truckload capacity for local, regional, and national shipments on top of the day-to-day inventory management of finished goods.
Expanding our Geographic Footprint
Another important aspect of our business growth strategy has included expanding our reach through new locations. In addition to setting up operations at Nucor’s mill site in North Carolina, we also opened a new warehouse.
Introducing Our New Laredo Warehouse
In order to further grow our geographic coverage and strengthen our successful partnerships, we opened a new warehouse in Laredo, Texas. We now have more than 2 million square feet of dedicated and multi-client warehousing sites. Our current locations include:
